GOLDEN SPIKE CEREMONY HAUTERIVIAN AND ALBIAN GSSP - June 29, 2024

The golden spike ceremony for the HAUTERIVIAN and ALBIAN Global boundary Stratotype Section and Point (GSSP) was held on June 29, 2024 in Arnayon and La Charce in Southest France.

The GSSP that defines the base of the HAUTERIVIAN Stage was ratified by IUGS in December 2019 (Mutterlose et al. 2021)

Maria Rose Petrizzo (chair of the International Subcommission on Cretaceous Stratigraphy), David Harper (chair of the International Commission of Stratigraphy), Jörg Mutterlose (chair of Hauterivian Working Group), Andy Gale (member of the Albian Working Group), Francesca Falzoni and Ian Jarvis (respectively secretary and member of the International Subcommission on Cretaceous Stratigraphy) attended the ceremonies.

Stéphane Reboulet (University of Lyon and chair of the Valanginian Working Group), Maxime Chateauvieux (Chargé de projets Espaces Naturels Sensibles, Conseil départemental de la Drôme), Hervé Simon (Communication Direction of the Department of Drôme, Baronnies Provençales Regional Natural Park), and Pascal Cirer-Methel (Mayor of La Charce) played an active role in the organization of the ceremonies.

The dedication ceremonies were also attended by Madame Marie-Pierre Monier (sénatrice de la Drôme), Monsieur Eric Phelippeau (Vice-président du Conseil départemental de la Drôme en charge de la transition écologique, de l’environnement et de la biodiversité), Madame Pascale Rochas (Conseillère départementale), Madame Nicole Peloux (Présidente du Parc Naturel Régional des Baronnies provençales), Monsieur Pascal Cirer-Methel (mairie de la commune de La Charce), and Madame Sophie Lacoste-Péricard (adjointe au maire de la commune d’Arnayon).
