Coniacian GSSP proposal approved by the Cretaceous Subcommission - January 2021

The GSSP proposal for the base of the Coniacian Stage defined by the first occurrence of the inoceramid Cremnoceramus deformis erectus at the base of Bed 46 in the Salzgitter-Salder section (Germany) was approved by the Subcommission on Cretaceous Stratigraphy. The GSSP proposal has been submitted to ICS for a period of discussion of the proposal within ICS after which formal voting will take place.
